Walk: Grown in Combe Down – The Fascinating Story of Combe Down’s Historic Village Allotments and Their Setting

February 15 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Jacqueline Burrows, Combe Down resident, local history enthusiast and allotment holder, will lead a walk starting at Holy Trinity Church where the vicar established the first allotments in 1852, before strolling through part of the village to get the 1895 allotments which are stilling use today.  The walk will take in a view of Upper Lawn Quarry, the original allotment gate and an ancient dry stone field wall and will find some of the original Bath stone plot markers which were made specifically for the allotments. Passing some of the oldest houses in the village on the way, participants will hear some interesting information about this lovely area of bath which was established by Ralph Allen for his stone quarry workers in the 1700s.
